Etsy Fees Explained (2026)

Etsy's fees are spread across five different line items, and most new sellers underestimate them by half. Here's every fee, what triggers it, and what a real sale actually costs.

The five Etsy fees

Listing fee$0.20 per listing, renews on each sale and every 4 months
Transaction fee6.5% of item price + shipping charged + gift wrap
Payment processing3% + $0.25 per order (US; varies by country)
Offsite Ads fee15% per attributed sale (12% if your shop passed $10K/yr; capped at $100)
Currency conversion2.5% when your listing currency differs from your bank currency

Worked example: a $24.99 sale with free shipping

Say you sell a print-on-demand item for $24.99 with free shipping, and your production plus shipping cost is $14.25.

Revenue$24.99
Transaction fee (6.5%)−$1.62
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)−$1.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Production + shipping−$14.25
Profit$7.92 (31.7% margin)

Now the same sale attributed to Offsite Ads at 15%: subtract another $3.75, and the profit drops to $4.17 — a 16.7% margin. That single line item is why pricing for "fees plus Offsite Ads" is the safer default; sales that come in organically are then a bonus, not a rescue.

The fees sellers forget

Shipping is fee-bearing. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge, not just the item. This is deliberate — it stops sellers from listing $1 items with $29 shipping. Practically, it means free-shipping pricing (folding shipping into the item price) costs you the same in fees and converts better.

Listing renewals compound. Each sale auto-renews the listing for another $0.20, and unsold listings re-bill every four months. A 100-listing shop pays $20 every four months just to exist — small, but it's why dead listings should be retired rather than left to auto-renew.

Offsite Ads is not optional forever. Etsy advertises your listings on Google, Facebook, and Instagram automatically. Under $10K in trailing-12-month sales you can opt out (Settings → Offsite Ads); past $10K you're enrolled permanently at 12%. Price your products as if some sales will pay it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take per sale?

For a US seller, roughly 10% plus $0.45 in fixed fees on a typical sale: 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, and the $0.20 listing fee. An Offsite Ads sale adds another 12–15%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrap. Charging $5 shipping costs you an extra $0.33 in transaction fees.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Only if your shop made under $10,000 in the past 365 days. Under that threshold the fee is 15% per attributed sale and you can opt out; over it, the fee drops to 12% but participation is mandatory. The fee is capped at $100 per order.

Is the $0.20 listing fee one-time?

No. It is charged when you create the listing, again every time the listing auto-renews after a sale, and every four months if it does not sell.
