How many tags can an Etsy listing have?
Etsy allows a maximum of 13 tags per listing. Each tag can be up to 20 characters long. If you add more than 13 tags in the Etsy interface, the extras are silently ignored. This tool validates both limits and shows you exactly which tags are over the limit.
What counts as a "character" in an Etsy tag?
Etsy counts every character in the tag, including letters, numbers, and spaces. A tag like "handmade soy candle" is 19 characters — just under the 20-character limit. A tag like "handmade soy candles" is 20 characters — exactly at the limit. This tool shows the character count for every flagged tag so you know exactly what to trim.
Does Etsy treat "Wall Art" and "wall art" as duplicates?
Yes — Etsy is case-insensitive for tags, so "Wall Art" and "wall art" are treated as the same tag. Only the first one is used; the second is silently dropped. This validator flags case-insensitive duplicates so you can remove them before uploading.
Can I paste tags one per line instead of comma-separated?
