Traffic vs. conversion: which lever is worth more?
Most Etsy sellers chase traffic — more listings, better SEO, Pinterest boards, Etsy Ads spend. But the math usually favors conversion rate first. Here's why: traffic costs time or money while CR improvements (better photos, sharper titles, tighter pricing) are one-time investments that pay on every future visit.
A shop at 1.5% CR with 2,000 monthly visits makes 30 sales. If photos improve to push CR to 2.5%, that same traffic produces 50 sales — 67% more orders with zero extra ad spend. Doubling traffic (to 4,000 visits at 1.5% CR) only gets you to 60 sales, and it costs real money or months of SEO work.
The what-if tables above show both levers with your actual numbers. Run the comparison, pick the one with the bigger dollar impact for your situation, then focus everything there before splitting attention.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my monthly visits and conversion rate on Etsy?
In Etsy's Shop Manager, go to Stats → Overview. The "Visits" count and "Conversion rate" percentage are shown at the top for whatever date range you select (last 30 days is the most useful). Visits are unique visitors — not page views — and the conversion rate is orders divided by visits, expressed as a percentage. Tip: pull a full 30-day window for a steady-state estimate; holiday spikes or just-launched listings will skew a shorter window.
Why does the calculator use "visits" instead of "views"?
Etsy reports two traffic numbers: Visits (unique people) and Views (total page-views, which count the same visitor multiple times). Etsy's conversion rate in Stats is orders ÷ visits, so this calculator matches that definition. If you only know your listing views, you can still use a rough ratio — shops typically see 1.5–2× views per visit — but visits give you a cleaner number.
What's a good Etsy conversion rate?
Etsy's own data and seller reporting put average shop conversion rates between 1% and 3%. Under 1% usually signals weak photos, off-target traffic (poor SEO), or a price mismatch. 3–5% is strong and typically comes from excellent photos, tight niche targeting, and social proof (reviews). Above 5% is rare and usually indicates a very loyal repeat-buyer base or a viral listing. Don't compare your rate to shops in different niches — a $200 art print will always convert lower than a $5 digital download.
Should I grow traffic or improve conversion first?
Improving conversion rate first almost always has better ROI. Doubling traffic costs money (ads) or time (SEO/content). Improving photos or writing better titles costs neither — and the math compounds: going from 1.5% to 2.5% CR on 2,000 visits/month adds 20 more orders at zero extra ad spend. Use the what-if table in this calculator to see the dollar impact of each 0.5% CR improvement for your specific numbers, then make the case to invest in photos or title testing first.
Does this include Etsy's listing renewal fee?
Yes — Etsy charges $0.20 to renew a listing on every sale. This calculator uses the same fee engine as the Etsy Fee Calculator: 6.5% transaction, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, and $0.20 listing renewal on every order. Toggling Offsite Ads adds Etsy's 15% Offsite Ads fee on top (mandatory for shops over $10,000/year in Etsy revenue).
What if I sell multiple listings at different prices?
Use your average order value (total revenue ÷ total orders over 30 days — both figures are in Etsy Stats). The calculator applies fees to that average, which gives an accurate monthly profit estimate as long as your mix of products is stable. If you sell wildly different price points (e.g. $5 stickers and $80 prints), segment them: run this calculator once for each price tier and add the profits.
